In 2020 over two quarters, I led the efforts to design and ship the Skeleton React component for the Fluent Design System at Microsoft. I defined Skeleton as, "Placeholder UIs that look like a wireframe of the loading page, with no content and are animated by a moving light glare or change in opacity. They provide users with the perception that the loading time is less than the actual time required for content to load and populate."
As a result of collaborating with numerous engineers, PMs, and designers, as well as rigorous research and testing, the Skeleton was successfully shipped. The component is currently indexed at ~180 instances in our public build of the Microsoft Teams web & desktop clients.
